February 2014 Corvette of the Month

Robert & Sandy Ramirez's 2013 Tuxedo Black Grand Sport

Robert & Sandy Ramirez

2013 Black Grand Sport (List year, style & color)

Is this your first Corvette? If not, list previous years, styles, and colors:

1993 Torch Red Coupe

What first attracted you to Corvettes? When was that or how old were you?

Robert: When I was 15, Corvette introduced the Sting Ray. I was hooked.

Sandy: Always liked the looks of the Corvette, never imagined I would be able to own one. Then, in 1993, it was my turn for the new car (we alternated every 3 or 4 years) and, having had a '69 Firebird 400 for a few years, I thought a new Camaro would be pretty cool. We went to the dealership and a wise salesman saw us just "eyeing" the new Corvette. He convinced us to just take it for a spin --- then put us in the Camaro. Needless to say, we ended up driving the '93 Red Corvette off the showroom floor and after 20 years of fun, traded it in on the 2013. And the fun continues!

How did you come to acquire this Corvette?

We were at the Sacramento State Fair this last summer and as we were on our way home we decided to stop by Performance Chevrolet, just to see John and Val's dealership. At the end of our visit we drove home with our new Grand Sport.

What modifications, if any, have you done to this car?

We had our windows tinted and added a clear bra. No other modifications have been made.

What modifications, if any, do you have planned for this car?

None at this time.

What do you like best about Corvettes?

Robert: Style and power.

Sandy: The feel and the sound!

How long have you been members of RCCC?

8 months

What offices have you held or runs you've put on?

Currently we help with Raffle Ticket sales and we will be putting on the run to the USS Hornet this summer.

What do you like about RCCC?

Robert: The people, the fun, our new friends. For us, RCCC is a social club. It just so happens that everyone owns a corvette and is young in spirit. We were in another club, but this is by far the BEST.

Sandy: I agree with Robert, but would also add that I like the casualness of the club and the warmth of the people. Everyone seems to sincerely care about the other members.

What other interesting facts might others enjoy knowing about you? (Occupation, hobbies, family, recent vacation, etc. Feel free to add any other interesting Corvette related story.):

Sandy is retired from 36 years in the legal field (paralegal/office manager). She dabbles in photography, but her passion is singing. Currently she sings in a 4 girl group called the Swingin' Blue Stars. They perform songs from the 40s era, mainly those of the Andrew sisters, at various theaters, on the USS Hornet, and at private parties. They've also performed at Pearl Harbor at the dedication ceremony for the new Visitor Center in 2010, in San Diego on the USS Midway, and sang the National Anthem at the Oakland Coliseum before an A's game.

Robert is a retired IT Manager from Bank of America, has recently joined a model railroad club, loves building model cars, and detailing his real cars.

Together, we enjoy snow skiing, jet skiing, camping, hiking and traveling. Our most recent thrills are Zip Lining through the mountains and SCUBA diving the clear waters of Maui.

We are "transplants" from the Bay Area, as of a couple of years ago, escaping the congestion of traffic and over crowded towns. The added bonus is that we are closer to the grandkids, mountains and lakes. Turns out to have been a great decision as we love it up here!
