December 2011 Corvette of the Month

George & Molly Barnes

Corvette: 2006 Monterey Red Coupe

Is this your first Corvette? If not, list previous years, styles, and colors:
This is our first Corvette.

What first attracted you to Corvettes? When was that or how old were you?
Always liked Corvettes since I was a teenager.

How did you come to acquire this Corvette? My wife wanted a sports car. We tried them all and then tried the Corvette. We both loved it. Molly insisted on the color Monterey Red. I scored lots of points getting her this car.

What modifications, if any, have you done to this car? Installed a CB radio and a clear protector on the front of the car.
What modifications, if any, do you have planned for this car? We may get new rims.

What do you like best about Corvettes? The looks, the way it handles, trunk space and the ergonomic seats.

How long have you been members of RCCC? Since 2006.

What offices have you held or runs you've put on? No offices but a number of runs. However, we do not care to drive too fast. Molly was in a car accident on the two lane section of Hwy 50 about 25 years ago. They were hit head on by a drunk driver and Molly sustained numerous injuries and almost died.

What do you like about RCCC? We like the friendly people and especially the social events (bowling, lunchens, minature golf etc.), dinner dances and parties.

What other interesting facts might others enjoy knowing about you?
We are both widowers an have been married 14 years. I have two daughters and three grandsons and Molly has one son who is married and lives in San Diego.
We are both retired from State service. I was a Civil Engineer with the Dept. of Water Resources and Molly worked for the Franchise Tax Board. We like dancing and bowling and getting out with friends. I was golfing twice a week until last year when I had my AAA surgery. At that time my kidneys quit so I was on dialysis for a year until I had a kidney transplant in June of this year. I hope to get strong enough to get back to golfing by next spring. We are season ticket holders for the Sacramento Kings. We used to sit next to Kelly & Larry Stark which is how we learned about RCCC. We enjoyed traveling but haven't done much of that since my AAA operation. We are just starting to get back to a more normal life style.
