Richard and Ann Petrie's 1998 Black Convertible

Name: Richard and Ann Petrie

Current Corvette: 98 black convertible

Previous Corvettes: Our first Vette was a 89 white convertible acquired on 3/17/2000. Ann gave it to me as a surprise on our 10th wedding anniversary. It was delivered to me at work. It was a total surprise. I think half of Caltrans statewide knew about before I did. Ann and I decided the previous Christmas that we would get a Vette. So I started looking and by the 1st of March had started to get serious about a Vette I had been looking at. Then all of a sudden Ann started discouraging me about burying a Vette. Little did I know she had bought a Vetet in January. She kept it a secret until our anniversary.

What first attracted you to Corvettes? When was that or how old were you? When I saw pictures of the first Vettes I was hooked. The need to have a Vette was cemented when a guy in town bought a new 57 and the TV show Route 66 showed up. However, when you are 10 or 11, a weekly allowance does not support the purchase of a Vette.

How did you come to acquire this Corvette? The 98 was a replacement for the 89. I had wanted to go with the caravan to Bowling Green but was not comfortable with the 89 since it was a high mileage car. We also decided that we wanted to up grade to a C5. Unfortunately the C5 didn't come in time to go to Bowling Green.
What modifications have you done to this car? None.

Modifications Planned: None.

What do you like best about Corvettes? The feeling I get when drive it. Especially the euphoric feeling of being tucked in the seat. Then when I turn the key and the engine jumps to life and I am driving down the road, nothing else compares.

How long have you been a member of RCC? Around 8 years.

What offices have you held or runs you've put on? None.

What do you like about RCC? Beside the people, it is fun to gather with other Vetters and to participate in the social activities.

What other interesting facts might others enjoy knowing about you? In Nov I will be retired 6 years. I retired from Caltrans after almost 40 yeas as a civil engineer. Ann retired almost a year ago. She worked as a prosthetist making artificial arms and legs. We have 3 daughters, 5 grand children and one great grand child.
