March 2008 Corvette of the Month

Richard and Bette Mastro's 1999 Torch Red Convertible

Name: Richard and Bette Mastro

Current Corvettes: 1999 Torch Red Convertible

Previous Corvettes: We had a 61 Honduras Maroon convertible , a 63 split window blue coupe, a 68 white convertible, then a 88 red convertible and finally the 1999 Torch Red we currently own.

What first attracted you to Corvettes? When was that or how old were you? Richard had one when we first met at the candy store in our neighborhood. I thought it was very cool.

How did you come to acquire this Corvette? We saw this Corvette listed in Craigslist and it had extremely low mileage and the pictures of it showed a very clean car.
What modifications have you done to this car? So far, just changed the wheels and had the car lifted so it can get in and out of our garage!! Looking for a really fine cup holder though!!!

Modifications Planned: Not sure except I do like the noisy exhaust systems I hear some of the others driving around.

What do you like best about Corvettes? The history, the uniqueness of the car, it is just so USA!! There is no other car that has this mystique.

How long have you been a member of RCC? Joined in 2006, and boy are we glad!!

What offices have you held or runs you've put on? No offices yet, but we are currently running the raffle. Richard is working on a run to Laguna, Ca. Hopefully, it will come together.

What do you like about RCC? The people are just so nice, it is such a comfortable welcoming group and it feels like home.

What other interesting facts might others enjoy knowing about you? Richard is all about cars, building engines, always working on old cars rebuilding them, we are looking forward to retirement very soon and want to travel and participate more in the club. We are expecting another granddaughter this summer. We want to learn how to dance better so we can dance on the cruise ships without being embarrassed!!
