November 2007 Corvette of the Month

Rick & Marge Sutter's 2007 Monterey Red Metallic Coupe

Name: Rick & Marge Sutter

Current Corvettes: 2007 Monterey Red Metallic Coupe

Previous Corvettes: First one.

What first attracted you to Corvettes? When was that or how old were you? Style - I was 16 years old and fell in love with a 1958 Corvette in 1959. It became my dream car for the next 47 years.

How did you come to acquire this Corvette? I was told about a 2004 Silver used Corvette which was for sale. John Cicotte told me I should at least look at a 2005 or newer model as the technology had changed drastically in 2005 with the C6. John asked Jim Bjornsen to call me and advise me of the differences between the C5 and C6. In the mean time, Marge told me that you have wanted one for so long, don't settle for something that is not exactly what you want as this will be the only one you will every have. I asked Marge what color she liked – not knowing anything about Corvettes, she said she liked maroon and left for the grocery store. By the time she got back I found exactly what I wanted, we went and looked at it. I went for a ride and I was hooked. By the time Jim called me that night, we had already purchased the car. Marge, the person who said get what you want now as this will be the only one you will ever have, now has told me that when I purchase my next Corvette, she will take over the 2007 C6!
What modifications have you done to this car? Corsa sport exhaust system with a full plate, front grill and CB radio.

Modifications Planned: I am done. [Ed. note: They all say that!]

What do you like best about Corvettes? Styling, performance and the camaraderie with other Corvette owners.

How long have you been a member of RCC? Eleven Months – Our first meeting was November 2006 and we joined in December 2006.

What offices have you held or runs you've put on? Rick is currently Treasurer and Marge is a call-around person this year. We co-hosted the Wine and Vettes in September 2007 run with the Smith's.

What do you like about RCC? The camaraderie and friendships we have made during the meetings, runs and other events we have attended. The meetings are fun, not like normal meetings, i.e. boring. We have gone on all runs and to all but two of the events since we joined and have enjoyed each and every one of them. When Marge heard I was joining a Corvette Club she said – "OK Have Fun"– not realizing that it would be as much for the women as the men.

What other interesting facts might others enjoy knowing about you? I worked in banking from the time I was 18 working part-time for Crocker Bank until I retired from Union Bank in December 2005. We moved to El Dorado Hills in March 2006 after spending the majority of our life in Concord. Marge and I have been married for 40 years and have one daughter, four grandchildren and one very large Golden Retriever named "Niner".
